Fun with Strip Piecing - Playful Quilting Machine Basic Quilting Class

Fun with Strip Piecing is a beginner quilting course. This project objective is to teach students the basics of quilting from the beginning stage, using the American quilting style. The course doesn’t focus on pattern making, but focuses on teaching the student to understand the basic quilting blocks and shapes, and adapt into their own design.

This beginner quilting course is designed to teach the student step-by-step. Start with the easiest and the most basic stitching which is straight stitching; the student will be learning different ways of stitching straight lines, and how to finish the work faster with an interesting outcome.

*What you will learn from this class

-Introduction to Sewing Machine; How to use and take care of your machine. Learn the basics of sewing machine maintenance.

-Introduction to necessary sewing machine notions.

-Learn how to use Inch Measurement for piecing work, with a sewing machine.

-How to use a rotary cutter to cut fabric the right way with different techniques.

-Learn how to straight stitch with different techniques efficiently, and with different outcomes such as: strip piecing, chain piecing.

-Learn how to use Walking Foot for quilting.

-Make quilted work from start to finish. This includes how to attach borders,batting and binding quilt.

-How to make a basic tote bag.

-How to make an easy cushion.

-Students will receive 3 pieces of work when they finish this class. 1 wall hanging quilt, 1 cushion and 1 tote bag.

Private class (in English) by appointment.

4 sessions - from 9.30 - 16.00

Students must finish in 8 months, counting from the first session.

Practice in the classroom and some homework.

Sewing machines are available for students in the class. Students can also bring their own sewing machines (please make sure that your machine has Walking Foot).

Class fee is 9600 THB for one person, excluding fabric and notions. For two people and more, the class fee is 5200 THB per person.

** What notions are needed for the class?

Basic notions for quilting are Rotary cutter, Cutting mat, Quilting rulers in inches measurement, Owl or stiletto, scissors.

Students can buy these notions from any quilt shop or contact the teacher for recommendations.

**What type of sewing machines to use?

In the classroom we have Bernina sewing machines to practise but students can use any brand that has Walking Foot to quilt.

**Can I bring fabric from other shops to use in class?

Please feel free to bring fabric from outside. The only rule is we use 100% cotton fabrics.

**Why does this course have a fixed time? (8 months)

This is because it will be more effective for students to quilt consistently and complete all of their homeworks on time. For this course, it's an 8 months period to allow some room for students who are unable to attend the class every month.
